Modding API 1.0 & New Loud Bird Puzzle (1.0.3 Update)


The new version v1.9 of Dicey Dungeons should be released within 24 hours. Or maybe it's already out when I publish this post. One of the main features in v1.9 is that modding API is updated to 1.0, which means we can do more various things in modding. YEEESSS! But it also means old mods are no longer compatible and can't be played. NOOOOO! The previous version v1.0.2 of Cauldron Mania was built for API 0.13, so I had to update it to be playable after the v1.9 release. Surprisingly, Terry, the developer and the wizard, helped me update it for API 1.0. Thank you Terry!


It's a good thing that the game gets more updates and features, but v1.9 broke not only the compatibility but also the Loud Bird puzzle in my episode Hourglass. Hourglass is an episode where you have to deal specific damage with given items, just like the Witch episode in Halloween Special. In v1.9 the behavior of the status effect flight got changed. It made it easier to deal damage in the Loud Bird puzzle, so I had to redesign it. It's a shame that the new puzzle don't have the joke item Bird Strike anymore, but its design is simple now and I like it.

Oh, and I made some balance change in this update too. Now there is a rare setup in Witch's episode Cauldron Mania with which you can consistently deal infinite damage. Can you find it?

One more thing - I have little time to update this mod to v1.0.3. I couldn't check if other 31 vanilla episodes work fine, and I know at least 2 episodes(You Choose, You Lose/Not Just a Jester) are not up to date. It is pretty unlikely that playing these episodes breaks your save file or anything, but they may have some bugs or be awfully unbalanced. On top of that, one modded enemy is excluded from all of 5 newly added episodes. If you enjoyed the 5 episodes in this update and still want to enjoy my mod to the fullest, please come back when the next update comes out. I'm hoping to make sure you can play other 31 episodes in v1.0.4.

  • Fixed a bug where Rusty Cauldron cannot roll a dice with value smaller by 1 than the inserted dice.
  • Due to a technical issue, Robot's Jackpot reward Parity Check was replaced with Garbage Collection.
  • Dice Post doesn't trigger curse now.
  • Match 3 Bonus cannot be stolen now.
  • Food equipments (only obtained by hunger effect) avoid shock/weaken and cannot be stolen now.

  • Tweaked Jack in the Mirror so that the counters increase on the first turn even if the spell is pulled out mid-fight.

  • Jack in the Mirror is immune to shock/weaken now.
  • Buffed Upgrade Me+. (extra heal of 1 health)
  • Nerfed Cloud Cauldron. (-1 use on normal/upgraded/downgraded each)
  • Fixed some bugs where "cure" sound effect is used when it should be "heal" sound effect instead.
  • Fixed a bug where the name of the boss is traced on the console when generating the map in Cauldron Mania(episode).
  • Renamed Triangle & Pentagon to Three Eight Time.
  • Tweaked the speed of hearts on wheels in Roulette Game a little bit. (14 frames per tick)
  • Tweaked the description of Chain Cauldron.
  • Tweaked the description of the episode Cauldron Mania.
